The Open Hand Project celebrated its Big Lottery Grant Award by utilising its wonderful new Ger (large Mongolian style tent) to hold a fund raising jumble, cake sale and evening concert. The Ger will be used to hold workshops funded by the Open Hand Project for vulnerable groups from the local area. It is hoped that rental payments for use of the Ger will also help aid the Open Hand’s other work
On Sunday 18th September folks from all over East Kent were welcomed by the Open Hand Team to an afternoon of browsing, entertainment and refreshments. The weather held fine most of the day. One person from Canterbury posted on Facebook later:
“The most beautiful Jumble Sale I have ever been to!”
Local singer/songwriters Jim Snelson and James Forrester volunteered to entertain everyone with a mix of their own creations and standards like “The Boxer”. Then they were joined by Pam Mudge Wood on flute and voice for an impromptu version of “Summer Time” as a finale. Spell binding!
The Open Hand would like to send extra thanks to all their brilliant volunteers who helped to make the day a wonderful success.
